Med School Bound!

For the past eight years, I have known that my ultimate goal is a career in the medical field. It wasn’t until I became a scribe that the foundational knowledge that I had learned throughout my undergraduate career suddenly became relevant.

More than Just Documenting

It had been a slow night in the emergency department, so I was working on my charts and chatting with the physician I was working with. The trauma pager went off, meaning a trauma was en route to the emergency department.

The Patients Appreciate Scribes

During my time as a scribe, I have received a great deal of positive feedback from patients and their families. This is not something that I expected when I first started, as scribes are not involved in direct patient care. However, sometimes it’s the small things that you do for others that make their experience in the emergency department a bit less stressful.

The Providers Appreciate Scribes

During the winter months, the emergency department becomes particularly busy as the number of individuals with viral illnesses increases. This is especially true in the children’s hospital, where I spend a majority of my time as a scribe.
